Is a wedding cake tasting important? Do you really need one? What if you already know the flavor of cake you like? Should you really sit down with a wedding cake designer?
As a hopeless romantic, I always dreamed about the day I would get married. When I got engaged I knew I wanted the wedding of my dreams. Everything needed to be perfect; my dress, my jewelry, his tux, our wedding venue, our caterer, our drinks, and most importantly, our wedding cake.
The most important dessert ?
Your dream cake is the most important dessert you’ll have on your wedding day. In fact, there is an entire portion of your wedding timeline that is devoted to cutting and sharing the cake. This cake is the first dessert you’ll share as one, so its not just a cake, it’s an edible representation of your love that will be in your memories and wedding photos for a lifetime. So if you are still wondering if a wedding cake tasting is important, the answer is …
Absolutely YES!
A wedding cake tasting is a must! Even if you know your cake flavors and the exact style of your cake, you should still schedule your wedding cake tasting. Not only will you eat lots of cake, you will also get to meet your wedding cake designer. This is your opportunity to convey your ideas so that you can ensure everything you envision can be brought to life. Feel free to bring your colors swatches, Pinterest boards, and any other inspiration you would like incorporated into your dream cake.
What to expect
Once you select your favorite flavors and you have a design in mind based on your inspiration and overall theme, you’ll start planning how you would like your wedding cake displayed. Would you like a cake stand? What color cake stand? Do you have a a cake topper in mind? Would you like your cake displayed on a round table or rectangular table? What will be the decor for your cake table? And the list goes on. At this point the cake designer will start creating a mental image of the style of cake you are looking for.
Don’t be intimidated
You don’t have to make all the decisions during your cake tasting. You just need to have a general idea of what you like. Your wedding cake designer can start the process from there. Once the discussion is complete, then your cake designer will provide you with a proposal via email. If you are happy with the proposal, you can reserve your date by paying a deposit (usually 50% of the proposal) and signing the agreement. A sketch of your dream cake will be created to ensure all the essential details are incorporated into your wedding cake design. You now can relax knowing your wedding cake is secured. Don’t worry, should you need to make any changes, this can be done up to 1 month before your wedding date.
